Title Of NU'EST's 'Sleep Talking' Inspired By Band Member Baekho's Real Life Condition

"Sleep Talking" is the title of the new single and EP by five-piece South Korean boy band NU'EST, released on August 22.

It is also the somewhat rare condition of NU'EST's Baeko, as his bandmate JR explained to the publication eNEWS.

"Baekho sleep talks in real life," JR said.

"Baekho talks in his sleep a lot, and it's to the point that you can have a conversation with him. There have been funny incidents when we woke him up in the morning, and he told us the wrong schedule or said things even he doesn't remember."

The sensation of sleep talking or "somniloquy" as it is medically known, is fairly rare for adults (only 5 percent of adults are believed to carry on conversations in their sleep, according to the website WebMD).

Yet half of all children between the ages of 3 and 10 are believed to engage in some form of sleep talk.

NU'EST singer Minhyun says Baeko's rare condition was just the jumping off point creatively for the song "Sleep Talking."

"'Sleep Talking' is a song with a mystic fantasy concept that NU'EST is trying out for the first time," Minhyun explained.

"In order to give off a mysterious and fantasy-like feel through the song and our performances, we tried to create a devilish yet bright feel not only musically, but visually as well."

NU'EST singer Aron says every time the band performs it feels as though he is dreaming.

"Every time we stand on stage for a performance feels like a dream," Aron said.

"When we see all the fans who love us, singing along to our songs and enjoying themselves with us, I wonder if this is reality. The excitement and energy at concerts is an indescribable feeling."

Minhyun reflected the ups and downs the group of nearly all teenagers (Aron is 20) has seen since NU'EST made their official debut on K-pop record label Pledis Entertainment last year.

"Although we haven't made our official debut in Taiwan yet, we went to Taiwan because of the fans there who love us. But Aron, who was really sick at the time, couldn't be with us. That's why we're still sad and want to go back," Minhyun recalled.

"We went to Turkey to spread K-Pop and had a good time with the K-Pop fans there. The country itself is beautiful, which was memorable. But it's the fans who like our music that left a deep impression on us."

JR admits NU'EST has their sights set on the US.

"There is a place we're curious about--America, where Aron was born and raised," DR said. "I want to go because I'm curious about the environment he grew up in. We'll have a chance to go soon, right?"
