107-Year-Old Killed By SWAT Team After Long Standoff With Arkansas Police

A SWAT team killed a 107-year-old man after a standoff.

The stand-off on Saturday left the 107-year-old suspect dead, Pine Bluff, Arkansas police say.

Local police responded to a complaint of aggravated assault against two people. Upon arriving at the home, they were told that the suspect, Monroe Isadore, had allegedly pointed a gun at two people at a home on West 16th Street in Pine Bluff. Isadore, who is 107 years old, then pointed the weapon at police.

Authorities had the two victims leave the premises, then approached the bedroom where Isadore was hunkered in. When the officers identified themselves, he shot them through the door. No officers were injured, but they called for backup.

The authorities called for a  S.W.A.T team and began to negotiate with the suspect. The SWAT team was able to insert a camera into the bedroom through a window, and confirmed that Isadore was armed with a handgun.

The negotiations came to a standstill, and police released gas into the room, in an effort to force Isadore to surrender peacefully. However, once the room was filled with gas, Isadore fired at the SWAT officers.

The officers breached the door, throwing a "distraction device" into the room. Isadore continued shooting at the SWAT team, who, they claim, had no choice but to eventually shoot and kill him.

The investigation is ongoing; no further details were provided.

What do you think of this? Should police have killed a 107-year-old, or does age not matter in the face of violence? Sound off in the comments below!
