‘Loki’ Tom Hiddleston Replaces Benedict Cumberbatch In Horror Flick ‘Crimson Peak’; Actor To Appear in ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ in 2014

Tom Hiddleston has certainly gained a huge fanbase, thanks to his role as Loki in Thor, Avengers, and Thor 2: The Dark World.  But that is not surprising, as the 32-year British actor surely can perform and draw in his audience.  In his film, "Only Lovers Left Alive," he plays a brilliant poet and musician, who also happens to be a sad vampire.  This movie had its second screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, the first having been at Cannes Film Festival in May where it was nominated for the Palme d'Or.

This February, Hiddleston will start filming "Crimson Peak," a horror movie where, it is said (but has yet to be confirmed), he would be playing a detective out to investigate the creepy incidents in a haunted house.

In an interview with Shock Till You Drop last June, director Guillermo del Toro said:

"Crimson Peak is a much, much, much smaller movie, completely character-driven.   It's an adult movie, an R-rated movie, pretty adult.  Shockingly different from anything I've done in the English language.  Normally, when I go to do a movie in America for the spectacle and younger audience, for Blade or whatever.  This movie's tone is scary and it's the first time I get to do a movie more akin to what I do in the Spanish movies."

The role that Hiddleston would play was initially slated for Benedict Cumberbatch (The Fifth Estate), but the latter had pulled out of the project last August.

Hiddleston, speaking about Cumberbatch, had told BuzzFeed, "The thing is we're really good friends, and as soon as Guillermo called, I called Benedict and I said this is happening, and he was like, 'Amazing!'  So, I had his blessing."

He added, "As these things do, they sent me the script about two weeks ago and it was a very new draft.  I know Mia [Wasikowska], who I'll be playing with very closely, and I know Jessica Chastain very well.  I've met Guillermo before.  And we are all admirers of each others' stuff.  And everyone said yes! I'm really, really excited about it. I'll be shooting here in Toronto in February."

"Crimson Peak" also stars 'Christian Grey' Charlie Hunnam.  It is scheduled to be shown in theaters in April 2015.

For 2014, Hiddleston fans can look forward to "Muppets Most Wanted" where he will appear as "Great Escapo," and "Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy" to which he lends his voice to the character of James.
