Although South Korean singer Shin Choi proves she is an artist worth taking notice on "Yes, I Should've Sent You With A Smile" off of her album collaboration with rock band Let's Go Dandy Boys, the song was not selected as the debut single.

Instead the logically named Let's Go Dandy Boys Plus Shin Cho Yi selected the more anthemic title track "By Your Side" as the album's lead single with a ubiquitous big budget, dramatic music video premiering for the song earlier this week.

This is a mistake.

Although "By Your Side" is a modern take on Cranberries-flavored pop rock, competently executed with some nicely layered harmonies, the song was clearly the safe choice as a single.

The kind of fans any decent rock band needs-no matter what country they hail from are those that respond well to a bit of daring and a bit of grit.

'Yes, I Should've Sent You With A Smile' has both of those qualities in strong supply, particularly in the song's inspired chorus, where Cho and the band even channel the sound of seminal 1980s Irish rock band My Bloody Valentine.

This is a sound not referenced often enough anywhere in music, but particularly not in Korean rock.

Best known as an audience favorite on the first season of the singing competition "Voice of Korea," Shin melds beautifully with Let's Go Dandy Boys. Yet there could be a bit more of her.

One of the other things that makes 'Yes, I Should've Sent You With A Smile' stand out among the other tracks on the "By Your Side" album, is it has more of Shin Cho Yi singing.

Her voice has the power to carry the project and there is something original in its longing that forces your immediate attention.

Now that Let's Go Dandy Boys has given her the power she needs to fuel her vocals, hopefully they will give her the space to deliver them as well.
