Kylie Minogue, `Skirt’ Singer, Is Joining BBC's 'The Voice UK' and We Can't Get Her Out of Our Heads (Videos)
Kylie Minogue, “Skirt” and “Locomotion” singer, will join The Voice UK as a coach next year. The BBC also confirmed that will.i.am and Tom Jones will return to the singing competition for season three.
Kylie Minogue comes on as the BBC announced that Jessie J will Leave “The Voice UK.”
Kylie Mongue’s got the X Factor. The Australian singer who’s had number one hits in every decade since the 80s has been named by the BBC as the frontrunner to join The Voice, the global hit talent franchise in Great Britain.
Kylie Minogue recently reunited with her sister Dannii Minogue for the first time in over twenty years on the Australian version of The X Factor.
The Hollywood Reporter had reported that Kylie Minogue would probably to get the spot, but the Australian singer hadn’t signed on yet. Kylie Minogue will join will.i.am and Tom Jones as they return for season three of the “The Voice UK”
The U.K. public broadcaster said "Grammy award-winner Kylie has had worldwide record sales of more than 68 million and was given an Order of the British Empire for services to music. With 10 world tours, 11 successful albums and over 50 hit singles internationally, Kylie is well placed to use her expertise to find and nurture new and exciting vocal talent."
Kylie Minogue said: "I'm very excited to become a coach on `The Voice UK.’ I love the concept of the show and have been an avid viewer of both series. The search for new talent is such an important aspect of the music industry and The Voice UK gives us all a part to play in that. Will I be competitive? Probably more than even I imagine! Watch this space!"
Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC One, said: "I knew the lineup wouldn’t disappoint! To secure the princess of pop, Kylie, and announce the return of will.i.am and Sir Tom is a really great moment for the show."
Mark Linsey, controller, entertainment commissioning at the BBC, said: “Kylie is a hugely respected figure within the world of music and will be a fantastic addition to The Voice UK. She is a true pop icon and her longevity in the industry is testament to her creative and musical ability.”
“The Voice UK” beat Simon Cowell's “Britain's Got Talent” several weeks in a row in its first season. The second season saw “The Voice UK” slow down. This led to the producers to look for new coaches and fix up the format. In the past few months, Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue left the coaching panel. The BBC said that the fourth remaining coaching position will be filled "in due course."
Moira Ross, head of entertainment for Voice UK producer Wall to Wall said “In terms of pop royalty, it really doesn’t get much better than Kylie With more than two decades of global success under her belt, I know she’ll bring something truly special to the coaching lineup."
Will.i.am said Wednesday: "While I will miss Danny and Jessie, I’m excited to be returning for season three and to work with Kylie and Tom. Together we will mix it up and bring new energy and ideas to the show."
The Voice has been in the process of being rebooted. They recently dumped two of their vocal coaches, Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue and Kylie will fill the vacant seat. Will.i.am, the Black Eyed Peas mainman is also expected to leave. Rumors have been flying that he’s going to join the panel of American Idol. Sixties icon Tom Jones, best known for such hits as “It’s Not Unusual” (which had Jimmy Page on lead guitar) and “What’s New Pussycat,” is sticking with the show. Jones is the only judge from the original lineup. Last man standing.
Paloma Faith, a BRITs nomine, and Will Young, who won Pop Idol, are also said to be in the running.
Jessie J announced that she is leaving “The Voice” to concentrate on her music. Will Young had the job before he was replaced by Danny.
Spice Girl Mel C and former X Factor runner-up Olly Murs have also offered their services.
BBC hasn’t revealed who the fourth judge will be.
