When the Antrim Grammar School in Northern Ireland asked the Belfast-based film production company Little Giant to shoot a promotional video, school officials reportedly asked the producers if they could go "Gangnam Style."

The decision to go K-pop paid off for both Little Giant and their client.

Entitled "Antrim Grammar Style," the four-minute clip featuring a parody version of Psy's hit song, just won the production company the Best Viral Video Award at the Digital Advertising Northern Ireland Awards on Tuesday.

"Antrim Grammar Style" has racked up over 260,000 views on YouTube and earned some high-profile promotion for the school.

According to Little Giant cinematographer and Company Director Robin Morgan, the Little Giant production staff thought using Psy's record breaking viral video as the inspiration for a promotional clip was an excellent idea.

"When Antrim Grammar came to us about shooting a film to promote the school we thought their 'Gangnam Style' parody [concept] was a great idea," Morgan told the Belfast Telegraph.

"The original version by Psy was the most watched music video online at the time so we had a fair idea it would be shared to a certain degree."

The idea was to use some of Psy's viral success to bring attention to the school, the Little Giant cinematographer explained.

"For a video to go viral it has to notch up between 60,000 to 70,000 hits," Morgan said.

"For it to leapfrog to the next level, it has to be picked up by the various media outlets to reach a different demographic and we were fortunate that this happened with our film."

A spokeswoman for Antrim Grammar School praised Little Giant, whose clients include the band Snow Patrol and the whiskey Bushmills.

"They took our idea and brought it to life in a way we could never have envisaged when this journey started," she said.

"We wish them continued success. We are sure this is just the first of many awards for such a creative production company."

Psy's music video for "Gangnam Style" is the most watched online video in history, with over 1.7 billion views on YouTube.
