Fantasy K-Pop Collab: LEDApple Hanbyul + Bruno Mars

Even among die-hard K-Pop fans is it hard to find a true LEDApple fan - which is a big ol' shame because the pop-rock band is made up of some of the most talented young artists in Korea.

All five members are good at what they do - aside from playing their instruments well, they each bring to the stage their own unique charm and spirit, despite having only two members remaining from the original lineup that debuted in 2010.

That said, there is a definite standout in the crowd - lead singer Jang Hanbyul.

Born in Brisbane, Australia, the trilingual vocalist has a voice that is unmatched in the world of K-Pop.

Hanbyul's singing is unique, whimsical, and powerful all at once as he tackles just about any style of music that is thrown at him.

Whether he is belting the original tunes of LEDApple, or rearranging well know hits from international stars, no singer in Korea really comes close to the sort of ability shown by Hanbyul.

But that doesn't mean he is completely unrivaled.

When The New York Times's Joe Caramanica said, "he is one of the most versatile and accessible singer in pop, with a light, soul-influenced voice that's an easy fit in a range of styles," he could have easily been talking about Hanbyul. Instead, the vocal "universal donor" he wrote about was none other than Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter Bruno Mars.

Counting among his musical influences artists like Elvis, Michael Jackson, and the Police, Mars has the rare ability to jump genres and incorporate elements from a broad spectrum of places into his songs.

Currently in the midst of their Music Note project, Hanbyul and his group LEDApple are releasing a series of 50 rearranged cover songs for charity. Each time one of the Music Note videos is watched on YouTube, the profits from the advertisements shown are donated to the Save the Children foundation.

For those who follow the band and the talented lead singer, it is no surprise that Hanbyul has performed his own versions of several Bruno Mars tracks for the project.

Although it is unclear exactly how a collaboration between Hanbyul and Bruno Mars would play out, it would be, without a doubt, very interesting to watch. Both guys have such powerful vocals that performing a duet would almost seem like a competition.

That said, something in line with the Music Note project might be the way to go.

As both Hanbyul and Bruno Mars are talented as far as arranging goes, an album of cover songs together would be an interesting way to go about it.

And if neither party is interested in that, opting instead for a more original partnership, what about LEDApple going on tour with Bruno Mars as his opening act?

With no Asian leg yet included in his current Moonshine Jungle Tour (and thus no opening acts for said hypothetical Asian appearances), might the popular American singer be persuaded to make an appearance or two in Korea with LEDApple alongside him on stage?

Give a listen to the proof and decide for yourself if this is a good idea!
