Yuna Kim Suffers Foot Injury As Miki Ando Returns To The Ice At Nebelhorn Trophy: Is The Korean Dominance Over?

The rivalry between Korea and Japan has taken a sudden turn as Yuna Kim suffers a foot injury and Miki Ando returns to the ice after a long time away.

Yuna Kim, 23, will be sidelined for 6 weeks with a metatarsal injury on her right foot, reports Eurosport.

"During training Kim Yuna felt a lot of pain in her right foot," says an official from the Korea Skating Union.

"The diagnosis she received is that she would need around six weeks to recover and will also require physio after she returns."

With this amount of recovery time needed, Yuna Kim could potentially miss both her grand prix assignments, Skate Canada (October 25 to 27) and Trophee Eric Bompard (November 15 to 17).

Despite achieving a dominating win at the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships (beating Japan's Mao Asada by over 20 points), the reigning world champion's quest to win a second Olympic gold medal may be less certain.

Another skater who is currently in the public eye is Miki Ando of Japan, also a two-time world champion, who is returning to competitive ice after a missing the last two seasons.

After becoming a mother and returning to training, Miki Ando will be competing at Nebelhorn Trophy this week.

Currently, Miki Ando sits in second place after the short program, behind Elena Radionova of Russia. Miki Ando scored 59.79 points, while Radionova scored 64.69.

With Kim Yuna sidelined and Miki Ando returning, is the Korean dominance over figure skating in jeopardy?
