After One Year, LUNAFLY Hope That They Had Changed for the Better

To celebrate their first anniversary which fell on 27th September 2013, LUNAFLY gave a treat to Malaysian fans by performing in two different shows on 12th October at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. Although it has only been a mere six months since they were here last March, a lot of things has happened and in the meet-the-media session which happened right after their first show ended, LUNAFLY talked about their new song, life motto, changes since their debut and their hope for LUNAFLY's future.

LUNAFLY, which comprised of Sam (leader/guitar/vocal), Teo (djembe/bass/vocal) and Yun (guitar/vocal), greeted the media, looking handsome in their black and white outfits. Having only performed in their first show of the day minutes earlier, when they were asked how they feel about the first show, Teo said that he feels good about it. "I feel like I've done the stage justice and so I'm looking forward to the evening show"

During the show, as a special gift to Malaysian fans, LUNAFLY had sang a Chinese song called Qing Fei De Yi (by Harlem Yu). Sam shared that they practiced the song for one month, stating that eventhough they were all busy with their schedules, they made it a point to at least listen to the song everyday. Yun admitted that he had a hard time with the pronunciation and Sam apologized if their pronunciation was wrong, saying that he had tried his best. Sam further shared that the reason they chose that particular song was because they felt that the song is similar to their (music) colour and style.

That was not the only treat during the show as fans were also given chance to be the first to listen to a never-before-released track of theirs, which is called 'Can't Stop the Rain', which is a sad, slow, heart-wrenching ballad. When asked about the song and their new concept, Sam said, "a little bit different from what we've done before.... We're feeling sad nowadays so we wanted to write sad songs." He also admitted that he didn't know when they're releasing their next project and whether it's going to be a single or an album.

This being their second time in Malaysia, when asked what they missed the most about Malaysia, Teo and Yun said they missed mee goreng (fried noodles) and nasi goreng (fried rice), while Sam said he missed Nando's and explained that there are no such chickens in Korea. Other than that, Sam said that he missed the Malaysian LUKIEs (LUNAFLY fans),  saying that "LUKIEs all around the world are very different but Malaysian LUKIEs are unique. They're very passionate and they sing along to every songs."

Having previously said that they wanted to do a world tour someday, when asked what is their hope for LUNAFLY's future, Sam said that "we don't really want to limit ourselves to any country, so we're trying to spread the joy." So far, LUNAFLY had managed to "spread the joy" to several different countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Tunisia and China. Not bad at all for a one-year old band.

At one point of the session, when they were asked about quotes that they've hold on to, Sam and Teo bantered back and forth on the best way to explain the word 'quotes' in Korean since Teo and Yun couldn't seem to understand what he meant by 'motto'. When he finally understood what it meant, Teo shared that his life motto is 'Have no regrets', meanwhile Sam and Yun had the same life motto that they've hold on to which is 'No pain, no gain'. Sam stated, "As an artist, you're going through a lot of downs in your career, so I think you have to be mentally strong in order to be able to get through the downs and to experience highs like this (indicating being in Malaysia), for example, it's a massive high for us.  So we always tell ourselves, we need to go through the pains to get the good stuffs as well." Wise words, leader!

Through all the ups and downs that they had experienced for the past one year, there must have been things that have changed as well. Teo jokingly said that the only thing that had changed was his hair, saying that he debuted with long hair, then changed his style to a mid-length one and now his hair is short. As for Yun, he said that nothing much has really changed, further saying that, "We've always been a team who writes our own songs, releases our own songs and perform our own songs on stage." Sam admitted that he has gotten a lot more confident since the past one year, assuring that it is a good thing and not in an arrogant way. He said, "I feel that from each concert that we do, I feel that hopefully we're getting better. We're learning from every concert that we do, so I hope that we're changed for the better."

LUNAFLY had definitely grown from the last time that we had seen them last March and it was really nice to see a group of talented young guys with their feet still rooted on the ground. We wish you luck and all the best, LUNAFLY. Congratulations on your first year of debut and we look forward to many more amazing things from you~!

Special thanks to M.E Malaysia for the opportunity to cover this event.
