Pokemon X And Y VS Digimon: Chesnaught And MegaGargomon, Delphox And Taomon, Are They Too Similar?

Pokemon X and Y have just been released, and one thing that fans and observers alike have noticed is the similarities between certain Pokemon designs and those from its rival franchise, Digimon.

It began when X and Y announced the inclusion of Mega Evolution, a term that had been used since Digimon's inception in 1999. Although the term Mega Evolution means two different things in Pokemon and Digimon, many people wondered why Game Freak would make such a blatant move that would pit the two franchises against each other in gamers' eyes.

"Game Freak really believed that the evolution, the concept of evolution, is one of the defining characteristics of the Pokemon games - it always has been, since the beginning," says X and Y director Junichi Masuda in defense of the comparisons.

"With Pokemon X & Y we had three main themes, one was beauty, one was bonds, like the bonds between people and Pokemon, and the third was evolution.

However, after the starters evolutions of X and Y were released, the comparison continued.

In particular, some have noticed similar evolution patterns between X and Y and the third season of Digimon called "Digimon Tamers."

"Only Braviary and Chesnaught remind me of Digimon because I was exposed to Digimon of similar designs or with similar characteristics earlier in my life...and I happen to like Digimon designs," says katashi65 on Gaiaonline.

Currently, Chesnaught is being heavily compared to MegaGargomon of "Digimon Tamers."

In addition, Fennekin's evolution line, both Braixen and Delphox, are compared to Renamon of "Digimon Tamers," particularly Renamon's Ultimate form, Taomon.

What do you think of these comparisons? Are they similar?
