Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev might not be reuniting in real life as lovers but the two lead celebrities of 'The Vampire Diaries' have both shared their joy after Somerhalder's adopted dog Nietzche gave birth to 8 pups.

The 34-year-old actor, who plays the role of vampire Damon Salvatore, rescued the homeless dog last August when it wandered near the set of TVD. He was unaware that his new pet was conceiving.

Millions of the 'Lost' actor's Twitter followers were able to witness a blow-by-blow udpate of the dog's condition: "She's in Labor! Aunt @thejram (aka midwife) & Uncle @polivierjr our little Nietzche girl is about to drop a ton of love into the world. World please send super-positive energy to this very brave and very scared little girl."

The dog's "aunt" and"uncle" is Jessica Ramsey and Paul Olivier Jr. who both work at the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.

Somerhalder also praised mothers all over the world through a photo of him cuddling Nietzche: "Live from the whelping box In Atlanta! Panting, pushing, contractions - Wow. Make no mistake about it - Ladies rule. Women of every species blow my mind ... Incredible what mamas go through! Love to you mamas - all over the world. Jeez."

He likewise did not waste time promoting his animal right advocacy: "THIS ignites even more ISF's vision and the absolute necessity to finish research and distribute SAFE species-specific oral sterilization drugs for dogs and cats! Let's put our heads together and end OVER POPULATION OF THESE INCREDIBLE ANIMALS! Thank you!"

Dobrev also posted a congratulatory message on her WhoSay account: "Birthing little Nietzsches ... Such a beautiful + equally terrifying thing to witness ...The miracle of life #Wow."

Dobrev and Somerhalder dated for 3 years before calling it quits. They have a cat named Moke whose custody belongs to 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' actress.
