Allen Iverson Retires From NBA – The 11-time All Star Is Set To Announce His Retirement This October

The 11-time All Star player Allen Iverson retires from NBA! The NBA star has not played since 2010 is set to officially announce his retirement from the league this October.

Iverson has played his last professional basketball game in 2011 in Turkey. Reports were made that the star has come to realized that his career in playing is finally over.

The NBA star expressed his hope in returning to the league last March, during his bobblehead night at Philadelphia. Two months prior, he turned down an offer to launch his comeback in the NBA Development League.

A former No. 1 overall pick out of Georgetown, he was proclaimed the 1997 Rookie of the Year, the 2001 MVP, a three-time All-NBA First-Team selection and a four-time scoring champion.

Iverson is proud to have led the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals where they lost to Lakers. He is in no doubt one of the franchise's all-time greats. He is the franchise leader in 40-point games (76) and 3-pointers (885), and is second behind Hal Greer in points (19,931).

One of the most productive scorers in NBA history, Iverson retires an 11-time all-star with a career scoring average of 26.7 points, the sixth-best career scoring mark in league history. Standing at only 6-feet tall, Iverson is the smallest player in the league to average more than 20 points per game in his career.

The Philadelphia 76ers will be hosting a halftime ceremony in commemorating the NBA superstar.

 "He might be the greatest athlete I've ever seen," Larry Brown, Iverson's coach from 1997-2003 and the current coach at SMU, said."I'm sure we faced a lot of obstacles, maybe even on a daily basis, but when it came time to play, to try to win a game, he tried to play as hard as he could for his coach," the coach added.

Now, he will return to retire in front of his mother team and the Miami Heat, with LeBron James - who is proud to say that Iverson was among his idols said Iverson was one of his idols.
