Katy Perry New Album Prism Reviews Highlight "Grown Up" Side [VIDEO]; Mixed Reactions Call New Songs "Sophisticated", "Cheesy"; Perry Says Album Is "About Finding Your Inner Strength"

Katy Perry new album Prism release date is Tuesday, and reviews are coming in!

Katy Perry is striking a new, more "mature" tone on her new album Prism: "I love being mature. I'm ready for my 30s - I hear it's so much better than your 20s."

According to the Los Angeles Times, Katy Perry's new album Prism feels "grown-up":""Prism" strikes a newly sophisticated balance between accessibility and idiosyncrasy; it's a work of confession scaled to Top 40 dimensions, one in which Perry uses her success as license to explore inside and out."

Katy Perry talked with the Los Angeles Times about her new song Roar: "Some people are going to see it as a song about cats.  But it's not just a song about cats. It's about finding your inner strength and not turning into a shell of yourself when you're faced with a situation you don't agree with.

"That may be a little psychological - like, What does it all mean?  But I literally just came from therapy, so I'm already there."
Katy Perry's lyrics deal with her experiences during her divorce from Russell Brand, which bring the album to a more personal and serious level.

Pretty Much Amazing writer Samuel Tolzmann describes Katy Perry's new album Prism in his review as "unsatisfying, cheesy, and very poorly written - but it has to be one of the best-produced mediocre pop albums in a while. It's a tepid collection that can be easily divided into two predictable categories, "bangers" and "wailers," but a robust team of gifted producers ensures that Prism is a fairly engaging listen almost in spite of itself."

According to USA Today, in her new album Prism Katy Perry is "stretching herself beyond the sugar-coated sparkle of Dream in search of higher forms of empowerment."
