Packers' Jermichael Finley in ICU With Second Serious Neck Injury in a Month

Jermichael Finley was sent to the intensive care unit at a hospital after suffering a neck injury in last night’s game against Cleveland. This is the second serious neck injury Jermichael Finley has sustained in the past month. On Sept. 22, He was hit by Cincinnati Bengals safety George Iloka in the first quarter of Green Bay’s 34-30 loss.

League sources told ESPN Senior NFL Insider Chris Mortensen that Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley Sent to ICU today after sustaining a neck injury at last night's game against the Cleveland Browns at Lambeau Field. Finley took a hit to the head from Browns safety Tashaun Gipson at the end of a 10-yard reception. The game was delayed for six minutes. Finley was carried off the on a gurney. Gipson was penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play.

The source said that tests on Packers tight end Jermichael Finley have come back negative so far. Finley has regained almost all movement. The Packers said he had movement and feeling in all of his extremities. There are more tests are scheduled.

Jermichael Finley wasn’t able to move after he was injured in the fourth quarter, according to backup tight end Andrew Quarless, a whose locker is next to Finley's.

Quarless said, "He couldn't move at the time. So I just told him, 'Just stay here, just lay here, don't move.' That look he had in his eyes, that was something that stuck with me. It really hurt me just to see him like that. My brother was out there on the ground."

Referee Jeff Triplette said Browns safety Tashaun Gipson led with his helmet.

Gipson said "[It was] all shoulder. The crown of my head did not go down whatsoever. It was a shoulder hit. I don't know the place where it hit him exactly. I just know I saw him break out of the middle. He was running a slant. I'm driving on the ball. There's a collision, and he's down. I really haven't watched the play, so I can't really tell you what happened. I was just going out there playing physical."

Finley finished the game with five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. Green Bay won 31-13.
