YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk Vows To Honor His Promise Of Dismantling The Losing Group On 'WIN: Who Is Next?'

Despite cries from viewers and even some contestants, YG Entertainment founder and CEO Yang Hyun Suk claims he will disband the losing group on the reality show "WIN: Who Is Next," as promised.

In a press release published Thursday on the record label's website, Yang explained that he felt it was important to honor his vow to fans.

"Since we have left the evaluation for selection of the winner 100 percent to the viewers' vote, what is the most important is to accept their decision no matter what and to keep our promise," said the K-pop mogul.

"WIN: Who Is Next?" is a reality show pitting 11 contestants, split into two boy bands, against each other for the chance at a YG Entertainment record deal.

The two groups, referred to on the show as Team A and Team B, will face off in the final battle of the season in the season finale this Friday, live at Seoul's Olympic SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium.

The winning group, once debuted, will the first boy band to join the YG artist roster since Big Bang debuted eight years ago.

Yet, the label left a small crack of hope for the losing band. The press release seemed to imply the losers could be disbanded only to be reformed after a period of reinvention.

"The winners will make their debut as a boy band immediately and the losing team will be disbanded or their debut will be put off," the statement read.

Yet Yang seems determined to break up the losing band on "WIN: Who Is Next?"

"I think that when the final winning team is determined, it is right to disband the losing team no matter what," he said.

The CEO's comments come in the wake of several online fan campaigns across South Korea and China asking the label to consider giving all 11 contestants a record deal.

And in last week's episode, Team B's Jin Hwan told the other contestants would like both teams to be considered by the label at a barbeque bringing the two teams together, no matter who wins on "WIN: Who Is Next?"

"I wish all eleven contestants could go to [YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk's office] together, kneel in front of him, and beg him to let us all debut together," he said.

The label also offered several details about the final challenge in the "WIN: Who Is Next?" finale.

"The final battle will test the members by giving them three missions," the YG release explained.

"The first mission is a competition with songs written by the members of each team themselves. The second mission includes dancing. And the third mission features a new arrangement of the same track. The third mission is drawing a lot of attention, as it is thought to be the toughest one. Team A and B's members have to write the melody and lyrics by themselves, for a track created by YG's head producer Teddy."
