13-Year-Old Boy Shot By Police:Authorities Say Told Kid Twice To Put Down Gun - Turns Out It Was Toy-Gun

13-year-old boy shot by police in Santa Rosa, Calif. Thursday: Authorities said that Andy Lopez to put down what the police thought was a real gun and though shot him and killed him.

Lopez, the 13-year-old boy shot by police, was told to put the gun down, according to witnesses oat the scene. One witnesses told reporters that they heard the police ask the 13-year-old boy twice before he shot by the police.

Police also said that the gun looked like an AK-47 replica.

"He was holding the weapon in his left hand. He began to turn toward his right in the direction of the deputy, and in so doing he moved the gun toward the deputy, and the deputy's mindset was that he was fearful he would be shot," Lt Paul Henry of Santa Rosa police said at a press conference.

"At some point immediately thereafter, the deputies fired several rounds from their handguns at the subject striking him several times," a spokesperson the Sonoma county sheriff's office states. "Once the scene was secured deputies learned that the rifle was a replica of an assault weapon."

"First, I heard a single siren and within seconds I heard seven shots go off, sounded like a nail gun," one witness told KGO-TV.

One man who saw the events unfold said the shooting was over in an instant.

"He pulled over to the kid walking and he just opened the door and shot him, three shots," Ismael Mondragon told KGO-TV.
