Paris Masters Tennis Winners: Novak Djokovic Gets His 6th Title Of The Season As He Beats Defending Champion David Ferrer

The ladder to the finals was not easy for Serbian National Noval Djokovic as he had to defeat Rodger Federer in the Paris Masters tennis semifinals last Saturday from a set and breakdown.

Federer, the 17-time Grand Slam champion, saved four break points at 5-4 and took the first set when Djokovic hit a backhand return long.

"The key was just to hang in there and stay with him," Djokovic said. "I knew that he's going to be very aggressive from the start coming to the net. He used his opportunities really well. He was very efficient at the net. Then, I tried to decrease the number of unforced errors and step in when it's needed."

The Paris Masters winner, Federer, two years ago, took advantage of an unforced error from Djokovic to break the Serb of the second set's opening game.

Federer netted a routine forehand volley and Djokovic immediately capitalized before taking a 4-2 lead. The Serb hit 11 winners to five for Federer in the second set.

"My serve was better toward the end of the second set," Djokovic said. "And I got more free points, let's say, on my first serves, which was one of the keys today."

"I needed to have better placement on my serve and just not go too much for the power, but rather accuracy."

Furthermore, the world's number two tennis player has won the semis and went on to the finals to face defending champion David Ferrer, where he won from a 7-5, 7-5 match reclaiming the title he won four years ago.

"Summer was up and down," Djokovic said, "and now again I'm playing on a very high level and have lots of confidence in myself, in my game. I'm at a good spot at this moment."

The newly engaged 26-year old player came back from a 5-4 sets by Ferrer to win his sixth title of the season, he now moves to London to defend his ATP World Tour Finals title.

Djokovic's quest to beat Nadal in the number one slot is slim as Nadal dethrones Djokovic from the top of the rankings by reaching the final of the China Open last month. The Spaniard holds the longest winning streak this year with 22 victories in a row from April to June and also from August to October.

The battle for the top spot continues at the ATP World Tour Finals happening at London's 02 Arena this Monday.

"It doesn't just depend on me, it depends on Rafa," said Djokovic.

"It's very important for me to concentrate on myself and let things take care of themselves. I've taken a lot of confidence from this week."
