Pokemon X And Y Shiny [UPDATE]: Friend Safari Increases Probability?

Pokemon X and Y have been released, and more players are noticing a trend between grinding for shiny Pokemon and the Friend Safari.

For those who do not know, the Friend Safari is located within Kiloude City, and functions as an updated Safari Zone of sorts. The Friend Safari, like the name suggests, utilizes the friends X and Y players have acquired through friend codes. Each friend will be designated a Pokemon type on a list, so the more friends you have, the more types of Pokemon you can catch in the Safari.

But in addition to giving players access to older generation Pokemon, many are proclaiming that the rate of finding shiny Pokemon also increases within the Friend Safari.

"The general consensus seems to be that it's much more common than outside, although the actual rate is unknown at this point I believe," writes nomenclature on Reddit.

"I got a shiny Growlithe and shiny Ditto seriously within 10 minutes of each other," adds DinosaurNecromancer.

Another theory regarding catching shiny Pokemon within the Friend Safari is that the friend who generates the zone has to be online for the probability to increase drastically. However, it appears this theory is moot.

"I found two shiny Pokemon in different Friend Safaris both were offline when I found them randomly," counters Koggx on Gamefaqs.

Although other testimonials also voiced long hours of grinding while trying to find shiny Pokemon (especially a specific shiny), it seems there does seem to be a correlation between the Friend Safari and an increased probability of finding shiny Pokemon.

So hopefully by utilizing strategies of grinding for shiny Pokemon within the Friend Safari, Pokemon X and Y fans can increase their shiny collection that much more!
