Happy Birthday Koda Kumi; Five Reasons to Celebrate Ero-Kawaii (Video)

Jpop star Koda Kumi turns 31 today. The "Britney Spears of Japan" was born Kumiko Kōda on November 13, 1982, in Kyoto.

Koda Kumi debuted in 2000 with the single "Take Back," but it was her seventh single, "Real Emotion/1000 no Kotoba," that was her breakthrough. The songs was featured in the video game Final Fantasy X-2. She was a sensation by the time of her fourth studio album "Secret" from 2005 and the megahit lead single "Butterfly." That was also the year Koda Kumi put out her first greatest hits album "Best: First Things."

Koda Kumi got a sexy makeover with the music video for her 2004  song "Kiseki." The album went double platinum. Sexy songs like "Hot Stuff" put Koda Kumi in the Japanese trend called ero-kawaii, where they stopped being cute and embraces Western sexual imagery. Ero kawaii literally means "erotic cute", it's also called erokawa. Koda Kumi was the first Jpop star to wear lingerie in a music video. She sexed up her image even more with songs like "Freaky" and "Taboo."

Koda Kumi is the 18th best selling solo Japanese female artist of all-time.
