Rare Sea Monster Video Found: Jellyfish Creature Identified To Be Deepstaria Reticulum

Although the sea monster lore has become a popular trend for any giant sea creature, this particular video may have found the strangest sample yet.

In this rare sea monster video, an oil rig cam captured a sea creature that looked unlike any other. According to the video feed, the sea monster was observed below 5,000 feet.

Check out the video below:

Despite its massive size and unexplainable appearance, some have stepped forward with an explanation.

"Steven Haddock, a scientist for the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in Moss Landing, Calif., says that the mysterious creature is a Deepstaria enigmatica jellyfish, much to the chagrin of some Reddit users who thought it was a whale placenta," writes Rammfan1 on LiveLeak.

"'This bag-like jelly is not that rare, but is large, so rarely seen intact,' Haddock said on his 'JellyWatch' Facebook page. 'In the video, the swirling from the sub makes the medusa appear to undulate and it even turns inside-out.'"

Others, however, believe this sea monster to be another species of the jellyfish family.

"This Jellyfish was named after the Deepstar submersible from where it was first observed alive in 1966. It's named 'Deepstaria reticulum'. It was known previously from being hauled up on fishing boats nets but its body would always be severely damaged," writes Warrenz666.

Nevertheless, it is clear that most likely, this creature is nothing but a gigantic jellyfish, although its rare appearance would make anyone observing it categorize it as a "sea monster."
