Apple 12-Inch iPad Rumored For An Early 2014 Release, Aims To Battle Large Android Slates, May Be Company's First Step In Replacing Laptops

Apple held an event almost a month ago, wherein the Cupertino company officially launched the iPad Air, and the Retina mini (iPad mini 2). However, as early as a couple of weeks back, rumors are pointing to a bigger, possibly 12.9-inch iPad set to arrive early next year.

In a report by The Korea Times, a reliable source has tipped that an upcoming bigger iPad tablet may be under way in 2014, in order to address the competition presented by larger Android slates from Samsung and LG. Moreover, the source said that the tablet's screens are already being manufactured in Korea.

However, it's not only the Korean site that has mentioned the 12-inch Apple tablet. Both the Wall Street Journal, and Chinese news website United Daily News are pointing to a release as early as March next year.

According to a report by BGR, the image capture capability of the bigger iPad is said to be a lot better, thanks to an 'almost ultra-high definition' (UHD) display. While there has not been rumors regarding the resolution of the 12-inch iPad screen, UHD resolution stands for 3840x2160 - that's a lot.

In case this rumor is proven to be true, Apple may be putting its MacBook Air lineup in danger. However, as TechnoBuffalo mentions, the Cupertino-based manufacturer is not afraid of cannibalization of its own products. As long as its faithful and loyal fans are purchasing its devices, Apple has nothing to worry about.

However, the company may want to improve its 64-bit chip first before making any further steps.
