Disney Frozen Movie Review: Is It The New ‘Lion King’? The ‘House Of Mouse’ Still Capable Of Melting Our Hearts

Just a day after Disney's "Frozen" premiere, it received generally good movie reviews.

The movie was announced by Disney earlier this year and it was said to be the "House of Mouse's" adaptation of the classic "Snow Queen" story by Hans Christian Anderson.

Its official synopsis:

In Frozen, a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

While the synopsis seems like the typical "Disney princess" film, there's definitely more to it than that. As we all know, the stereotype in this kind of film focuses on true love between the prince and the princess. But, with Frozen, it is centered on true love between two sisters.

After Pixar dominated the "family-oriented" film genre for several years, Disney seems to be on the right track on getting it's "mojo" back. Starting from The Princess and the Frog to Tangled and last year's Wreck-It Ralph, the "House of Mouse" definitely tries to get the top spot for creating classical "family-oriented" films. And, most critics think so, too!

Disney's Frozen movie first premiered last November19, 2013 at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California. The film earned almost $250,000 during the movie's limited release. It then became the seventh best pre-screen movie of all time. The movie was officially released in theatres on November 27, 2013.

Aside from getting good sales week, movie critics seem to love the story and the songs in the movie.

Kevin Fallon from The Daily Beasts said, "From the fall of the first snowflake, Frozen is gorgeously animated, turning a dramatic Nordic landscape into a wintry animated wonderland. It's icing on the, well, ice that the film's story is as emotionally cascading as the setting."

Fallon believes that Frozen could be the next "Lion King" saying, "Disney getting its mojo back would be something to celebrate at any point; mojo by its definition is a great thing, and Disney's was particularly groovy." He also added, "Frozen proves that Disney we loved is, indeed, back...and back to melting hearts."

Linda Barnard from The Star also loved the movie.

In her Disney Frozen movie review, Linda stated, "Disney's Frozen, is a gorgeous and engaging animated musical featuring self-reliant princesses, loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen."

Barnard also praised the songs included in the film saying, "Being a Disney musical, songs pop up throughout the action, with varying success. "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" is a whimsical charmer sung by Bell, proving to have a pleasing voice. And of course Broadway babe Menzel of Wicked and Rent fame can shatter icicles with her powerful voice, showing off all her skills with empowering anthem "Let It Go."

Can Disney's Frozen truly be the next Disney Classic? What do you think?
