K-Pop Workout Playlist:Remix Edition

On December 5th, The New York Times published an article for the Urban Athlete column featuring New York City K-Pop dance and fitness instructor Victoria Kang and Bounce Studio. The article was titled Gym or Dance Floor? Either Works and posited that the same workout that is achieved within a gym can be found through K-Pop dance. As the popularity of K-Pop increases, it is only a matter of time before K-Pop dance finds its way into the repertoire of more dance and fitness studios throughout the world.

As K-Pop becomes incorporated into a fitness playlist, the demand for more music that will provide the soundtrack for warm up activities and cardio vascular activities increases. K-Pop remixes which are most often intended to for club play or mix radio play, generally offer faster tempos and lend themselves to maintaining the proper beats per minute to sustain a cardio workout SM Entertainment recently shared the DJ Jimbo's remixes of SHINee's Everybody on their Facebook page.

Music to Warm Up to

Warm up music should generally be consistent in terms of the beat and should not be as uptempo or fast as music what will be used for the actual workout routine. Whether the work out that is selected is fast paced walking, jogging, aerobics, or K-Pop dance, it is necessary to properly stretch and participate in at least ten minutes of a warm up routine. While attending dance fitness classes, it is sometimes necessary to arrive at the studio at least ten minutes prior to the start time to stretch and warm up if less than ten minutes is built into the class time.

Now that the holiday season is full swing worldwide, there is no better time to start incorporating more exercise into the day. With K-Pop growing in popularity, there will definitely be more studios like Victoria Kang's with the mission of spreading fitness through K-Pop dance. Until then, those who live outside of areas with K-Pop dance studios can take advantage of remixes to create more interesting workouts.
