As Pokemon X and Y fans know, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres have been spotted in Kalos, but it's not entirely clear what the circumstances have to be for them to appear. Also, what if you are looking for one of the three in particular?
According to Segment Next, only one of the three legendary birds can be captured in your copy of Pokemon X or Y.
Which legendary bird you encounter will be decided very early in the game. If you start with Chespin, Articuno will be your bird. If you start with Fennekin, Zapdos will appear instead. Picking Froakie, then, means you will get Moltres.
So, pick your starters wisely, as they impact things far beyond what you may expect in Pokemon X and Y.
But where and when do you encounter these legendary birds in Pokemon X and Y?
After defeating the Elite Four, you will encounter the bird for you, which registers its entry into the Pokedex and enables you to track it using the location feature on the device.
You will then be able to tell what route the legendary Pokemon is on, upon which you must wonder around hoping for a random encounter with it.
When you do encounter it, however, it will immediately run away!
This cycle will occur 10 times before it settles in the Spirit's Den, and you can attempt to capture it for real.
Now that you know how to capture Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres in Pokemon X and Y, which of the legendary birds will you pick?
