F.T. Island's Lee Hongki Explains Why His Hand Was In Front Of His Midsection In 'Inkigayo' Performance: 'My Fly Was Open!'

F.T. Island Singer Lee Hongki has a very simple explanation for why he spent the entire performance of the song "Madly" in Sunday's episode of the Seoul Broadcasting System program "Inkigayo" (or "The Music Trend") with his hand in front of his midsection.

It was the lesser of two evils.

"I apologize to the viewers of 'Inkigayo,'" Lee wrote on the microblogging website Twitter shortly after the broadcast.

"My hand position was a bit awkward, but my fly was open. I'm sorry."

Lee's strange hand position may have stood out a bit more against the stark backdrop of his white suit, an unfortunate outfit considering the F.T. Island singer's predicament.

According to the publication eNEWS, an "Inkigayo" audience member had informed Lee that his fly was down just before he went on the air, but he apparently didn't have time to zip up.

Lee can currently be seen in "Cheongdamdong 111" on the South Korean music station Total Variety Network (tvN).

"Cheongdamdong 111" is an eight-episode reality show filmed at F.T. Island's record label FNC Entertainment.

The label is home to other mainstream K-pop acts like CNBLUE and AOA.

Lee said he was initially confused about why his record label wanted to film a reality show.

"I never understood why we had to film this, and who we were doing this for," the F.T. Island singer told the Korea Star Daily last month.

"I was wondering why we had to shoot footage of what happens inside the company. We are already busy with preparing our own albums, so I really had no idea why we had to do this. After reading through the proposal and hearing that everyone in the company would be involved in the filming, I had a feeling that the drama would flop 100 percent."

But Lee credited "Cheongdamdong 111," which combines written dialog and real interactions, for allowing label employees to resolve some of their personal differences.

"There were some pre-set scenarios and scripted lines, but it was basically just arguing with one another," Lee said.

"But through the filming, I realized that misunderstandings were all being resolved which wouldn't have happened if there wasn't any filming. I also learnt about things that I never knew before.

"I hope the drama will show that everyone working in the company is one big happy family," he added.

"Cheongdamdong 111" premiered on tvN on Nov. 21.
