BEAST Yong Junhyung’s ‘Flower’ Filled with Dreamlike Images – Creepy or Poetic?

BEAST's Yong Junhyung announced his first solo album, and released his title song "Flower" and its music video. He appealed to the audience with a new twist and dreamy images.

On December 13th Yong Junhyung released his song "Flower" and its music video. This is his first solo album, and he appears as the main character in his music video. The video is reminiscent of a mono-drama, and has eerie images that are vague and dreamlike.

Yong Junhyung metaphorically expressed his sad and empty emotions with lyrics that recall the past memories of an ex-lover. More than making sad facial expressions, he put on a deadpan expression. The video also showed him lying in a space that is similar to that of a coffin. There were also slightly creepy scenes that only showed Yong Junhyung's head, without a body.

There's not a moment in Yong Junhyung's music video where you can tear your eyes away from the scene. Each image leaves a strong impression that makes you think of a work of art. He expressed the emptiness of losing a lover through images of a butterfly, candle, and other objects melting down or burning up.

What left the strongest impression were the scenes of Yong Junhyung's head and no body. His expressionless face as he looked towards a woman was kind of like something that would appear in a horror movie. Yong Junhyung's slow rap complemented the choreography as well.

"Flower" is very different than any other song that BEAST has performed until now. It has a simple yet dreamy electric piano sound, and the saxophone sound leaves an impression on the listener. Lyrics such as "Even when time passes, will you still be fragrant" captivate the ears as well as captures the emotion of one missing a lover.

Yong Junhyung expects to continue with his solo activities promoting his song "Flower."
