Benedict Cumberbatch – From Sherlock To Doctor Strange? Disney Uses Misdirection – Marvel, Not ‘Star Wars’, Is After The British Actor

The buzz around Hollywood is that Benedict Cumberbatch is on Disney's radar. The quick conclusion is that he is being eyed for a role in "Star Wars Episode VII."

The report was posted by The Daily Super Hero, and advised readers to take the news 'with a grain of salt.' Although this is unconfirmed, they are quick to reiterate that the source of this news is the same source that gave them the scoop about Bradley Cooper joining Guardians of the Galaxy. That turned out to be correct.

Numerous rumor sites and even mainstream news agencies reported the rumor of Benedict Cumberbatch being involved with "Star Wars Episode VII." But the insider reveals that the rumor was initiated by Disney in order to mislead the aggressive and resourceful internet sleuths who keep spilling out information prematurely.

This is not the first time Marvel has done this. They rely on the element of surprise and has become very strict with their actors and their statements when they interview.

It looks like the entire Disney organization has took that rule to heart. It can be recalled that Saoirse Ronan blurted out details about her "Star Wars" audition, and eventually, she was not considered for the part. It was not clear, though, whether her revelation had something to do with the decision not to cast her.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been the most reliable source (so far) when it comes to Marvel news. He shares some valuable insights, albeit very cryptic, but sleuths would always read between the lines. One thing we have learned is that Marvel Phase Three is cosmic in setting, and will feature characters from that realm.

We already have a sampling with the Scarlet Witch appearing in "Avengers: Age Of Ultron." Doctor Strange would be a welcome addition, and would project well as a character in a movie.

With the current British Invasion in Hollywood, Marvel would definitely want to cash in. The big success of the character Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston)has prompted some rewrites in the script. With Cumberbatch fast becoming an A-lister, they would want a major role for him.

His image as Sherlock Holmes will translate well as the Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Strange.

This is the ideal casting situation that most comic book fans want. It should be remembered that the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe started with the brilliant casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.
