Review: G.NA Shines On Her Soulful Cover Of 'Mornin'' Featuring Phantom, For The David Foster Tribute 'Hitman Project' [VIDEO]

Canadian artist and producer David Foster may be known as the hitman, but 26-year-old K-pop singer G.NA showed off her own killer musical instincts on a cover of the song "Mornin'" for an upcoming tribute album.

Other artists involved include Ailee, Lee So Ra and Bobby Kim.

Released on Dec. 9 "Hitman Project : A Tribute To The Hitman, David Foster," includes two versions of G.NA's David Foster cover--one in Korean and one in English.

Both versions feature smooth vocals by South Korean hip-hop group Phantom, with the strong Michael Jackson influence the band is known for.

G.NA, who is herself Canadian-born, offers up a sultry vocal on "Mornin,'" that fittingly enough has overtones of classic 1990s Janet Jackson.

In this way, "Mornin'" almost sounds like the duet that Michael and Janet never did.

Although the superstar siblings achieved major chart success for their 1995 collaboration "Scream," to have heard the two pop giants join forces on something with the mellow soul of "Mornin'" would have been a treat.

But there is something original and distinct from Michael, Janet or even David Foster in G.NA's cover of "Mornin.'"

Producers Kim Do Hoon and Lee Sang Ho achieve a certain brightness in the overall sonic palate that ends up being more evocative of actual morning time than the original.

The music video for G.NA's version of "Mornin'" also a delightful aspect of the song.

Consisting mostly of pigments being combined in a large vat, the overall effect ends up being reminiscent of the 1960s psychedelic light shows of Joshua Light Show.

It is the perfect compliment for a song that is readymade for a mellow moment.
