Minecraft PS3 release date has finally been announced.

Mojang and Sony confirmed that Minecraft PS3 release date in North America is happening today, December 17. Since Minecraft PS3 release date is set for today, gamers in the US should be able to download the game now from the PlayStation Network.

Meanwhile, Minecraft PS3 release date for European gamers is set for tomorrow, December 18.

The post on PlayStation Blog site for Europe created by Owen Hill of Mojang reads, "Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition will be available to download from PlayStation Store from this Wednesday, 18th December."

According to International Business Times, Minecraft PS3 version will be similar to the previous editions of the game. However, Minecraft PS3 edition will bring in new stuffs since downloadable skins and texture packs can be bought from the PlayStation network.

Based on Minecraft PS3 release date news, the PlayStation 3 edition of the game will arrive together with a DLC called the Festive Skins Pack. As Cinema Blend posted, "The Festive Pack, released on Xbox 360 last year, allows you to turn your characters into holiday-themed figures like Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman or the Gingerbread Man.",

Citing PlayStation Store, Minecraft PS3 edition is priced at $19.99 and the game is only 85 megabytes in size.

Minecraft PS3 edition supports online multiplayer of up to eight members. Furthermore, it also allows 2-4 player split-screen mode, which will require an HD TV.

Aside from the news about Minecraft PS3 release date, updates about the PS4 and PS Vita versions were also provided. Accordingly, the game is still in development for these game consoles. The post from PlayStation Blog further reads, "Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition and Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition are also being developed but we don't have release dates yet. Expect more news in the New Year."

Minecraft PS4 release date, as well as the PS Vita version, may most likely be set for next year.
