Liam Payne, 19, and his 24-year-old girlfriend of 2013, Sophia Smith, go way back: the One Direction singer and the gorgeous brunette have known each other since their school days at St. Peter's Collegiate School in England, Hollywood Life reports. In fact, Sophia Smith was Liam Payne's childhood crush, and he reportedly was turned down 22 times before he finally started dating his bombshell girlfriend!

These two seem totally in love, in case you can't tell by the photos in the gallery above. Sophia once flew 5,000 miles across the Atlantic so she could attend One Direction's final U.S. concert in Los Angeles on August 10. Her effort shows that Liam's girlfriend really supports him and his band.

Liam Payne's relationship with his new girlfriend was confirmed during the One Direction's press conference for "This Is Us" in August, OneDirection.net reports.

Liam was asked, "You've got a girlfriend?"

Liam responded, "Yep it's new."

Liam even pointed out Sophia Smith when he was further questioned by Yahoo! about his new girlfriend of 2013.

They asked him: "What's this about you having a new girlfriend?"

Liam pointed to her, saying, "Yes, yes I do. She's sitting right over there. It's not been long."

But even though their relationship appears to be drama-free, Liam was livid when jealous One Direction fans dissed his relationship with Sophia on Twitter. On August 21, he posted two tweets about the hate mail he received about Sophia.

"Always sad to get on here to read horrible stuff about someone you care about," he wrote on Twitter. "There is that old saying tho if you ain't got sh*t nice to say then f**k you," he added.

Yikes! No one mess with Sophia, or the One Direction singer will bite back!
