The Number 1 Pop Artist of Mainstream Music for 2013 Goes to…

Who do you think deserves the title of number 1 mainstream pop music artist of 2013?

2013 is already coming to an end, and it's that time of the year again. It's time to revisit music of the past year and see which pop artist and songs received the most love from fans.

Billboard revealed a holiday music chart for 2013's pop music. They gathered data from December 1, 2012 to November 30, 2013, including song and album sales (including streaming) and number of plays on radio stations.

Bruno Mars was listed as 2013's top artist in pop, followed by Taylor Swift in 2nd place and Justin Timberlake in 3rd. "Locked Out of Heaven," "When I Was Your Man," and "Treasure" were definitely hit singles, and has contributed to him winning the glorious title of top artist.

Billboard 200's album charts indicated that Justin Timberlakes The 20/20 Experience took the number 1 place against rivals Taylor Swift's Red and One Direction's Take Me Home.

The collection of 2013's most popular Hot 100 Songs put Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop (feat. Wanz)" in 1st place. Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines (feat. T.I. & Pharrell)" stood at number 1 for 12 consecutive weeks this past year. However, it lost the 1st place to "Thrift Shop" and took 2nd place.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' other number 1 hit song "Can't Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton)" was 5th place on the Hot 100 list. They took the number 1 spot in 10 categories, including Top New Artist. Their popularity and impact on the music industry was so great, that 2013 was dubbed "The year of the two male rappers."

In 2012 Psy's "Gangnam Style" shook up the U.S. music market, and its popularity is still evident even today. The song is still number 1 on charts for rap, dance/electronic streaming song charts. Not only that, Psy stood at 42nd for the Top Artist list, and his song "Gangnam Style" was 55th in the Hot 100 Songs. Fans are greatly looking forward to Psy's comeback in 2014.

In Korea there have been many popular pop songs this past year. They include Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," Adele's "Someone Like You," and Maroon 5's "Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa." These songs took some of the top spots in Korea's pop music charts. Jason Mraz, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, and Justin Bieber are other popular artists that have many fans in Korea as well.

The movie Les MIserables' album and Daft Punk's Random Access Memories did very well in CD sales for 2013.

Baauer's "Harlem Shake" and Ylvis' "The Fox" were two other hit songs of 2013, that sought to follow in the footsteps of Psy's "Gangnam Style."

K-Pop and other pop music are ever changing, and we can only look forward to what kind of transformations 2014 will bring for these artists. Which artist are you most looking forward to for 2014?
