Psy Tells Crowd At Moonlight Gymnastics Show That Unlike 'Gentleman,' His New Song Will Showcase The Return Of His 'Gangsta Attitude'

Psy is getting ready to return to his hardcore hip-hop roots, and according to the K-pop King of YouTube, he couldn't be happier about it.

Facing a crowd of 12,000 at Sunday's "2013 All Night Stand Concert," the first of the rapper's three consecutive "Moonlight Gymnastics" performances at Seoul's Olympic Gymnastics Arena, Psy was surprisingly candid about his musical past and his plans for the future.

"'Gangnam Style' is a song that was definitely not directed at an international audience, but still I found myself asking 'really?' every day as unbelievable things kept happening," Psy recalled.

"It felt like a hidden camera. I wondered why this happened to me and then I released 'Gentleman.'"

But the monster success of "Gangnam Style" (still the most-viewed music video in the history of the Internet with over 1.8 billion YouTube views), caused "Gentleman" to be less a labor of love then just sheer labor.

"'Gentleman' was not a suitable song for me," Psy told the Seoul crowd.

"'Gangnam Style' was not specifically directed at anyone, but when I was producing 'Gentleman,' I continuously thought about the foreign audience and if they could pronounce the lyrics. It was not writing lyrics, but more like practicing linguistics. I was very stressed because of it."

However for his next single, scheduled for release early in 2014, the South Korean rapper says he will turn to his earlier, harder hip-hop roots.

"For my upcoming song, I went back to the beginning and stayed true to my gangsta attitude," he said. "Now that I have changed my way of thinking, working feels much better."

Back in October, in a Twitter post that went well beyond the microblogging website's 140-character limit, the King of YouTube explained the concept behind his three holiday performances.

"What is 'Moonlight Gymnastics?' It is a scolding when you do something that's against your class. As a member of society, how much effort did you put into this year to keep that class?" Psy wrote.

"I too had a hard time this year. It's already been a year since I ended up getting pushed into promoting abroad without even realizing it. The man with no class in particular tried to have the class of a small yet spicy pepper. After jetting forward with the class that I do not have, all that's increased are my English and stress."

The record-breaking rapper also vented his frustrations of spending a year just promoting "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman."

"Before I used to go to festivals and do 15 songs, but now I've lived an entire year with just two songs," Psy wrote.

"For all of us who tried their best this year, let's do something that fits our class for just one day! Let's do some Moonlight Gymnastics on the moonlit nights before Christmas at the Gymnastics Arena that's known to be the best place to do gymnastics."
