The Walking Dead Season 5 Casting Begins: Who Will Play Abraham? Negan? Can You Be The Next Governor?

The Walking Dead Season 5 casting has begun. Notices are springing up like infected zombies. No, don't go to your local CDC. Go to Atlanta, don't listen to Rick. Sure, it's been overrun by walkers but those walkers are getting paid to stumble around like that. And they're not the only Walking Dead characters getting cast.

The Governor died last season. Hershel lost his head in Walking Dead Season 5. This leaves a vacuum. In the comics, the next good guy to hit the scene is Abraham. He's an ex-army guy from Texas who lost his wife and two daughters to the zombies. He's going to be very important to Rick.

The next bad guy, who's not a walker, is Negan. Negan leads a group of survivors called The Saviors. Negan's got a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire that he calls Lucille. I don't want to give too much away. And I can't anyway because The Walking Dead TV series veers so far off the path laid out by the comic books. They do that intentionally, by the way. It keeps fans guessing.

The Walking Dead was renewed by AMC for a fifth season. The Walking Dead lost its creator Frank Darabont early on and it's been chomping along under new show runners without him. It hasn't hurt the ratings though. Filming for the fourth season wrapped up in late November.

AMC just put out the first casting notice for The Walking Dead Season 5. Actors, get out your headshots and resumes. Then dunk those headshots in goo. The Walking Dead is looking for new series regulars, recurring roles, and guest starring roles.

Non-Actors who want to spend their time on set decaying can submit their profile information to extras casting.

Casting hasn't yet for The Walking Dead spinoff series.

The Walking Dead Season 4 returns to airing on AMC on Sunday, February 9, 2014.

On October 29, 2013, AMC officially renewed the Golden Globe Award nominated horror drama series "The Walking Dead for a fifth season. Darkwoods Productions, Circle of Confusion and Valhalla Entertainment will begin production on season five in early 2014. The show's casting directors in Los Angeles and Atlanta will begin holding auditions. Actors may be considered as long as they are eligible to work in Atlanta and in the United States. Shooting takes place in the state of Georgia. The extras and stand-ins are cast throughout the entire season on a daily basis as needed. Extras who are hired to play zombies are required to attend a brief "Zombie School" to learn how to bring the characters to life. The series is based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.

"The Walking Dead" is centered around Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer from Cynthiana, Kentucky, his family, and a number of other survivors who have banded together in order to survive after the world is overrun with zombies or as The Walking Dead characters call them, Walkers. As the series progresses, the characters become more developed, and their personalities shift under the stress of a zombie apocalypse. Fighting growing despair - and sometimes each other - the group searches for a secure location which they can finally call home. Season 5 begins with Rick and the group is heading to Washington DC, where they meet new danger and a new enemy. Once again, Rick must do whatever it takes to keep the rest of the group safe.

Starring in "The Walking Dead" is BAFTA Awards nominee Andrew Lincoln as the show's main protagonist Rick Grimes. Among the many other actors starring in the series is two-time Young Artist Awards nominee Chandler Riggs as Rick's son Carl Grimes; Steven Yeun is Glenn Rhee, the son of Korean immigrants; Norman Reedus plays Southern hunter and expert tracker Daryl Dixon; Lawrence Gilliard, Jr. plays Bob Stookey; Melissa McBride plays the fragile character Carol Peletier; Scott Wilson portrays Hershel Greene; Emily Kinney plays Beth Greene; Chad L. Coleman plays Tyreese; and Sonequa Martin-Green plays Sasha.

Two-time Daytime Emmy Award nominee Scott M. Gimple is executive producer and took over as showrunner after Glen Mazzara's departure. Independent Spirit Awards winner and Valhalla Entertainment CEO Gale Anne Hurd also serves as executive producer. Dave Alpert and Robert Kirkman executive produce for Circle of Confusion. Five-time Primetime Emmy Award winner Gregory Nicotero and Primetime Emmy Award nominee Tom Luse round out "The Walking Dead" executive producing team.
