SNL’s Kristen Wiig Plans to Direct Films In 2014; Stars in Life of Walter Mitty With Ben Stiller

SNL alumni Kristen Wiig is best known for comic turns on TV and in films like "Bridesmaids," which she also wrote. The comedic actress wants to do more work behind the camera in the coming year as she turns her attention to directing.

Kristen Wiig became a household name on Saturday Night Live and the mega-hit comedy "Bridesmaids." Kristen has a part in the new Ben Stiller star vehicle, "The Life of Walter Mitty," which opens today. Kristen Wiig was also in the the recently released "Anchorman 2." Now Wiig wants to conquer the camera. The Target Lady wants to direct.

Wiig told Moviefont, "That's what I'd like to start focusing on later this year. Maybe something someone else has written. Maybe something I have written. I'm not sure. I'm starting to look at stuff now. But that's been an ambition for a long time."

Although "Bridesmaids" was huge, Wiig doesn't think her directorial debut would be a blockbuster.

She said "It's just going to have to be the right material. It being my first thing, it'll probably be something smaller. I'm not going to be directing the next 'Hunger Games.' I don't think they're going to come to me!"

That's not to say Kristen will be leaving acting behind. Wiig appears in four film projects that are in production like her turn doing a voice in the upcoming "How To Train Your Dragon 2."

Kristen said she got the part in "Walter Mitty" after Ben Stiller hosted Saturday Night Live. She said
"He brought up that he wanted to talk to me about a project. So he sent over a script, and it was written by Steve Conrad, who I think is a genius. I've been a fan of his for a long time. I loved the script. And I met with Ben shortly after and he talked about the character and what he thought the movie would be and what the feel of it was and the tone of it. We talked about other cast he was thinking of and even the music. It just sounded amazing and like the kind of movie I would want to go see."

Just don't ask her to to write and star in "Bridesmaids 2," it was never meant to be a franchise.
