5 Bold K-Pop Predictions For the New Year 2014

K-pop has been rising in success year-on-year.  The year 2013 has been full of controversies, comebacks and debuts.  So, goes the cycle of being a K-pop idol, especially with their lives in the spotlight and under the microscope. Looking at how busy our favorite K-pop idols were in the past year, in their different activities such as concerts, fan meetings, CF's, let's act as fortunetellers in foretelling the outlook for 2014!

#1 Prediction:

K-Pop  will rise in more countries, and collaborations will even be more widespread among K-pop and mainstream artists.  G-Dragon already teased a Biber collaboration, and we know there are more Western artists who are well-versed in K-pop (Paris Hilton, Tom Hiddleston, Amanda Seyfried, anyone?).  So, it will not be surprising if bigger names like Lady Gaga, Chris Brown, and the like would dabble into a cross-over with K-pop this year. K-pop will diversity as it soars high, introducing more genres -- such as the rise of ballad, hip-hop and rock.  These genres in Korean music have been showing their potential in 2013, and it will reap its  results in 2014.

#2 Prediction:

BIG BANG, Super Junior, and Girls Generation will hold on to their sweet spot as K-pop royalty, with highly anticipated full group comebacks in Korea.  2013 saw these three groups pretty much in hiatus in the Korean scene, focusing instead in solo, Japan releases or international tours.  But, their fans are holding steadfast, albeit even increasing as they  branched out to gain more fans through their 2013 activities.  EXO, the new hot group on the block, will continue its rise, perhaps branching even further beyond familiar pop territory, as they carve their identity in their 3rd year in the K-pop world.

#3 Prediction:

Psy is still the face of "K-pop" with Gangnam Style and Gentleman continue to amass further views.  Crayon Pop, 2013's viral princesses, will perhaps shed their helmets for a new concept, but the whole world will still remember their jumping and hopping to Bar Bar Bar.  Both Psy and Crayon Pop have secured their spots, and new albums and offerings will only mean further attention.  There will be yet another viral winner for 2014, the question is will it be someone we know or a complete rookie?

Prediction # 4:

The New Breeds from SM, JYP, and YG are coming! WINNER, SM Rookies, and a boy group and girl group from JYP have already been announced. So, for 2014, we know that more trainees will get their debut stages and contend in a bigger world of K-pop.  There will definitely be someone for every possible new fan of K-pop as well.

Prediction 5:  K-Pop will continue to define trends in fashion! From airports to the runway, K-pop has catapulted Korea to stand out when it comes to fashion. And K-pop idols usher it in, what with their courage to experiment with styles.  While K-pop artists are endorsing more and more global brands like MAC, Dior, Versace, DSquared, and others, Korean fashion and beauty houses will also enjoy worldwide recognition with the push from K-pop.
