For most US stores, the "season to be jolly" actually starts with after Christmas sales as a lot of sellers are pulling all stops with deals that let you have the gifts you didn't get.

Retailers are rolling out the red carpet for US consumers as the official 2013 after Christmas sales begin on December 26. Huge retail chains like Wal-Mart, Target as well as Kohl's open at 5 in the morning today to give early shoppers a head start.

"This is an especially big time for people who got gift cards to come and spend on what they didn't get for Christmas," says Sarah McKinney, Wal-Mart spokeswoman, told USA Today.

Target spokesman Antoine LaFromboise said after Christmas sales is the most popular period for consumers to redeem their gift cards.

He said that Target will offer discounts of up to 50% for selected toys as well as 40% off on apparels.

Below is the rundown of what some of the retail stores are offering:

Kmart's "Shop Your Way" campaign offers members 50-cent discounts for each gallon of gas when you purchase at least $25 on Procter and Gamble goods.

Kohl offers 15% discount for every purchase under $100 and 20% off for purchases over $100.

Toys R Us offers 40% off on some select toys and video games which will last through the New Year.

J.C. Penney offers coupons equivalent to $10 discount off goods bought at $25 or more. The promo period will last until Dec. 28.

Macy's offers "buy one, get one" campaign for its men's designer suits and dress shirts.

It's not just apparel and toys as Sears will take up to 40% off on appliances for member shoppers who purchase over $499.

Consumers can also save up to 50% off on Wal-Mart chain of stores which put up thousands of items under the after Christmas sales.

Online shopping stores like Amazon are also joining the Christmas cheer. In fact, Amazon is offering up to 70% discount on watches, clothing, baby goods, shoes, and jewelry.
