IU's 'Friday' Debuts At Number 1 On The Billboard K-Pop Hot 100

Solo singer IU is back on top of the K-pop charts again with her new single "Friday," which debuted this week at number one on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100.

In a Dec. 22 post to her online fan club, IU thanked the fans for making "Friday" the perfect ending to a highly successful year. A year in which her album "Modern Times" sold nearly 3 million copies in the first week, when it was released back in October.

"Because you loved 'Friday' so much, I think I'll have a very warm Christmas," IU wrote. "I'm going to work harder on writing music."

The singer-songwriter added that her recent success has been even more gratifying because she has played a more active role in writing her own material.

"It really does feel different to be loved through a self-composed song," IU wrote.

Down one place from its own debut at number one on the Billboard K-pop chart last week, is record label Jellyfish Entertainment's annual holiday-themed single "Winter Confession."

Although Billboard credits the song to singer Sung Si Kyung, "Winter Confession" also features vocals from Jellyfish artists Park Hyo Shin, Seo In Guk and the members of VIXX.

Debuting at number three this week is R&B quartet Brown Eyed Soul's new single "You Are So Beautiful."

The song is part of the group's new bundle of digital singles entitled "Thank Your Soul."

In addition to its notable debut on the Billboard K-pop Hot 100, "You Are So Beautiful" was the number one song on the Korean music charts Bugs Music, Mnet.com, Naver Music and Melon.

And winning the award for this week's biggest chart position jumper is Bumkey. The rapper's cover of 1990s hip-hop duo Deux's "Only For You," which also features Verbal Jint, comes in at number four this week after entering the chart last week at number 39.

The song is part of a 20th anniversary tribute album for Deux.

"They were always like an idol to me and I admired them even when they weren't doing music, so I feel honored that I got to take part in their tribute album," Bumkey told allkpop earlier this month.

And standing firm at number five is a cover of The Blue's 1992 hit "Feeling Only You" by "Reply 1994" stars Jung Woo, Yoo Yun Suk and Son Ho Joon, which debuted last week at the same position.

"Reply 1994" is a South Korean television drama about six students living in a Seoul boarding house in 1994.
