Michael Schumacher Accident Latest Update; Racing Legend Still In Coma; His Family Insists 'He Will Not Give Up'

On the eve of his birthday (January 3), Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is not found on any bars lifting up bottles of champagnes or beers. Instead, he is at the Grenoble University Hospital Center, under an artificial coma following a brain injury he sustained while skiing in French Alps.

"His condition remains stable this morning. At the moment this is good news but I don't want to go into further prospects as it is too early. He is still in an artificial coma," his agent Sabine Kehm told the media outside of the hospital.

On Saturday, the seven-time world champion was skiing in Meribel Resort when he suddenly fell and hit his head on a rock. Schumacher fell asleep for a few minutes before rescuers arrived and airlifted him to the nearest hospital. Today marks the fourth day of the 44-year old German in the hospital, still unconscious. The medical team overseeing his situation said that he " remains in a coma and for the moment there is absolutely no question of evaluating him from a neurological point of view and seeing how he will be when he wakes up."

Schumacher's family has been with the racing icon's side since the incident and on the legend's website, they posted:

Following Michael's sking accident, we would like to thank the people from all around the world who have expressed their sympathy and sent their best wishes for his recovery. They are giving us great support.

We all know he is a fighter and will not give up.

Thank You

Aside from the progress of the high profile patient's condition, Kehm said that the hospital security is also keeping an eye on the journalists and other people entering the premises after a breach on Schumacher's room was made by a man who disguised as a priest.

"With doctors reluctant to give a prognosis on injured race Michael Schumacher, one journalist apparently tried to get answers for himself by dressing up as a priest in order to get into the hospital room where Schumacher is lying in a coma," The Wire writes. "The man was escorted off the premises when his cover was blown."
