Girl, 3, Dies After Dental Operation; Lawyer Of The Victim's Family Said The Dentist Didn't Perform Any Precautions

Parents of a three year old girl from Hawaii feel devastated after losing their child to an operation that is just supposed to remove or fix their child's teeth.

Last November, Finley Boyle of Honululu was taken by her mother Ashley to Dr. Lilly Geyer of Island Dentistry in Kailua, Hawaii after learning from the family's doctors that the girl has 10 cavities and would need root canal. After she was given a mix of drugs to sedate and feel numb before the December 3 operation, the poor girl suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest and was put on coma for the next four weeks. Last week, doctors removed her feeding tube because doctors believe that there's no more chance for her to recover. The girl was pronounced dead due to severe brain damage.

On Friday, January 4, Kenneth L. Zeri, president and chief professional officer of Hospice Hawaii where the girl was admitted released a news regarding the passing of the little girl.

"There are few greater privileges in life than to accompany someone on their end-of-life journey, providing comfort and support not only to that person but also to their loved ones," the statement said.

"As with all of our patients, we were truly blessed to be able to be there for The Boyle Family and for Finley at the end of her journey."

Finley has been unresponsive since her cardiac arrest and on Friday, she stopped breathing.

"She will probably not be with us much longer," said Ashley Boyle, who is also a registered nurse. "We were all hoping. Even the doctors are in tears. We were all just waiting for her to wake up."

"She didn't make an attempt to do it, didn't know how for whatever reason," said the victim's father, Fried, referring to Geyer's decision to not revive her daughter while witnessing the kid's flat line. "It's pretty horrific."

The family has filed complaint against the dental clinic and the doctor.

"As a direct and proximate result of the medications administered to (Finley) by defendants, (Finley) suffered cardiac arrest during her dental procedure," the lawsuit says.

Dr. Lilly Geyer and the Island Dentistry are yet to make a statement regarding the matter.
