An unnamed male German has come out to say that he was able to film F1 legend Michael Schumacher's accident which took place last weekend. German news magazine Der Spiegel said that a man approach them claiming to have captured the incident on video while filming his girlfriend using a smartphone just a few meters away.

Schumacher sustained a brain injury after a freak accident while skiing in Meribel Resort within the French Alps. Reports said that he hit his head on a rock. The racing icon has been in coma for more than a week now.

Albertville prosecutor Patrick Quincy, as reported by the Associated Press, said that French police are now working to get their hands on the said smartphone to be able to explain how the seven-time world champion got into the skiing accident. Quincy also refused to make any comments regarding this development until the scheduled news conference sometime in mid-week.

According to the German witness, Schumacher was just in a leisurely pace or "a maximum speed of 20 kilometres an hour." It also appears that before the 45-year old professional German driver fell, he was helping a friend who had just fallen." The anonymous man's statement contradicts what doctors from the Grenoble University Hospital Center have earlier made. They said that there could have been "a catapult effect that explains the violence of the shock, even in the absence of excessive speed."

Meanwhile, Schumacher's biggest and toughest rival, Mika Hakkinen, has expressed his sympathy over his opponent and friend's condition.

"Your accident is now just another challenge. You have to fight hard again, just like we both used to do on the track," the Finnish driver said according to the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

"Do me a favour: just this once don't try to beat the clock. You don't have to post your best time in this race. You have to take all the time you need."
