As the New Year begins, Olympic diver Tom Daley has come out on Instagram to confirm his boyfriend Dustin Lance Black.

"They are officially in a long-term relationship and talking about having a future together," said a friend to Huffington Post. "All of their friends are completely supportive of them as a couple."

Reportedly, Tom Daley coming out has been due to Dustin Lance Black and his position as a gay activist.

"The work that Dustin does with gay rights activists has really given Tom the courage to come out," a friend told The Mirror.

"Dustin has also been the driving force behind him coming out. He is a pretty inspirational person and Tom is completely in awe."

In a recent photo on Instagram, Tom Daley has posted the first official photo between himself and boyfriend Dustin Lance Black.

And while Tom Daley and boyfriend Dustin Lance Black have received plenty of support, including from family members, some fans are less than ecstatic about the pairing.

Their relationship has stirred some controversy due to the 20-year age difference between Tom Daly (19) and Dustin Lance Black (39).

In addition, fans are still bringing up the controversy surrounding Dustin Lance Black regarding his explicit sex photos with another man, which depicted unsafe anal sex.

"Age difference may or may not be a big deal. But unsafe sex is, hope you went to get tested together. Mr. Daddy Bareback should've known better, hope you have common sense," wrote an observer on Instagram.
