What “Sexy” Girl Groups Can Learn From Girls’ Day

With the influx of the girl groups coming back with sexy concepts, there is a "sexy war" going on in the k-pop world. With Girls' Day's song, "Something," which came on January 3, other girl groups such as AOA, Rainbow BLAXX, and Dal-Shabet are preparing to debut by the end of this month.

Although these girl groups are planning to come back to the public with sexy concepts, as shown in the teaser pictures and videos, the public is no longer fascinated by the girl groups' sex appeal. The keyword of the Korean pop culture these days is "warm humane beauty" and humor instead of sex appeal, as the economy keeps dragging and the hard life is continuing on from last year.

However, it is hard to find warmth or humor in the girl groups' sex appeal. The reason why Crayon Pop experienced such success could not have been just because of their sex appeal. Their song, "Bababa," never lost the unique cheerfulness and warmth, which the public audience liked.

What the third generation girl groups should never forget is that girl groups give a wide variety of pleasure to the audiences. Some of the pleasures include their girl-like appearances, which have been the tradition of girl groups since the first generation girl groups, S.E.S. and Fin.K.L.
