Michael Schumacher Accident Update: Police Say F1 Legend Was Skiing Off-Piste But Not On A Reckless Manner

French investigators have confirmed that Michael Schumacher went into a restricted area skiing at Meribel Resort in French Alps. After investigating the helmet camera that Schumacher wore during the unfortunate incident, police found out that the seven-time Formula One champion was skiing off-piste, which may have been the cause of his accident.

"Mr Schumacher was going down the piste up until an intersection between two other pistes, one red one and one blue one," said prosecutor Patrick Quincy who was speaking through an interpreter.

"He follows the red piste to the left side and he then finds himself off piste. He's obviously a very good skier and is between three and six meters off piste. At one point his skis touch a rock, he loses balance and his head hits a rock which is eight meters alongside the piste. Mr. Schumacher is on the ground, inanimate, and is nine meters from the edge of piste. We proceeded to examine the film that was made. That particular film is extremely legible and gives us a great deal of information, or at least confirms the information we've already had."

Although Quincy stated that the clip plays a huge role in the investigation, he thinks that there are still "a number of aspects that have to be carried out in order to be able to determine with as much precision as possible where the fall took place, the distance between the edge of the piste and the speed Mr Schumacher was going."

Before this news, French police insisted that the 45-year old German driving legend, was not skiing 'recklessly.'

Schumacher's family, meanwhile, has called for the public to "support us in our common fight with Michael." In a statement, her wife Corrina asked for the media to relieve the doctors so that the latter can work in peace.

"I kindly ask you to trust their statements and leave the clinic. Please also let our family in peace."
