Are Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder back together? While it's unlikely that the "Vampire Diaries" co-stars are dating again, Ian Somerhalder gave Nina Dobrev a kiss at the People's Choice Awards in L.A. on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

According to E! News, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder managed to joke about their break up while presenting at the People's Choice Awards last night. Though some might speculate that his sweet kiss suggests that the "Vampire Diaries" stars are back together, we think it shows how close the exes have managed to stay following their break up last summer.

"This is crazy. Can you believe this almost five years in the making?" Somerhalder, 35, said while they accepted the "Best Chemistry" TV award.

Dobrev then talked about their "Vampire Diaries" characters: "You're right, yeah. But you know what's crazier though, Ian? At the beginning of the show, Elena actually hated Damon."

"You were hooking up with my brother!" argued Somerhalder, who was referring to Paul Wesley's character, Stefan.

"You killed my brother," Dobrev retorted, referring to Steven R. McQueen's character, Jeremy.

"And then she fell in love with me," Somerhalder recalled.

"And then we started dating on the show," Dobrev added.

Somerhalder reminded the audience that they also started dating in real life.

"Then we broke up in real life," Dobrev said, referring to her break up with Ian in May 2013 after three years of dating.

"And yet our characters are still dating on the show," Somerhalder said.

"It's a good thing it's not awkward," Nina said with a nervous laugh.

Ian and Nina made some awkward facial expressions at the People's Choice Awards.

"Well, it's a good thing we have chemistry!" Dobrev said.

Ian then grabbed Nina around the back and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

We're sure Nian fans out there all died a little with that peck!

Nina also celebrated her 25th birthday today, and Ian was one of the first to wish her a happy birthday.

"Happy Birthday @ninadobrev!!!" he tweeted just after midnight. "The world loves you! We all do. Enjoy the moment, enjoy the day, enjoy the year!"

We wouldn't be shocked if these two get back together soon!
