In the second installment, Tiger JK talks about his participation in Kollaboration Star 2013 this past fall and why he thinks it is important to help give a voice to the talented, up-and-coming Asian-Americans who are widely overlooked.

With the mission statement, "Empowerment through entertainment," Kollaboration is an organization dedicated to the support and advancement of Asian-Americans in entertainment and media.

Through a series of talent competitions held across the country each year, Asian and Pacific Islander youths are encouraged to express their wide range of talents. It serves not only as a creative outlet, but also gives a voice to an large and underrepresented population of Americans.

Spending his formidable teenage years in Los Angeles, Tiger JK did not have the support of such an organization to help him achieve his goals. He did, however, have a tight-knit group of friends who inspired and pressured him into pursuing his dreams, and now he wants to give back.

For the 2013 Kollaboration Star finale in Pasadena, California last November, Tiger JK and the latest configuration of famed hip-hop group Drunken Tiger (including his wife Yoon Mirae and long time friend Bizzy) headlined the show with an hour long set.

When asked about his participation in the event, Tiger JK spoke of his own observations and relationship with Roy Choi, Kollaboration's Executive Producer and CEO, all while inadvertently explaining the mission of Kollaboration in his own words.

"In Hollywood, Asians come out as comic relief, for no reason - it has nothing to do with the plot line," he began, explaining how the media portrayal of Asians is off-putting.

"My friend [Roy Choi] actually witnessed a lot of that and he wanted to find all these talented Asian-American artists... who is not getting put on or being taken seriously, or they have no stage. So my friend Roy started this organization to give them the opportunity to shine, support them, you know, the whole nine."

Tiger JK understands where these young artists are coming from having recently branched out with his own new record label Feel gHood Muzik, where he is starting from the bottom yet again.

"Our first concert or event is actually Kollaboration," he explains, adding, "it's like a homecoming. Three brothers that grew up together with sort of the same goal... it's just full circle, it's a beautiful thing for me."

As for his advice to all the young Asian-Americans pursuing their entertainment goals, Tiger JK says, "That's easy, they've got to embrace, embrace the situation."

"There are a lot of crazy talented kids out there nowadays, and they're winning too. They're intelligent, they're ambitious, they're hustlers... it's good to have confidence."
