Orphan Black Tatiana Maslany Doesn't Mind Losing In Golden Globe Best Actress Award; Reveals Her Family Would Rather Talk About 'Baby Bird'

Tatiana Maslany, the leader star of BBC America's hit series Orphan Black, probably has the shortest resume when compared to other Golden Globe nominees like Robin Wright (House of Cards), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), and Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife). This is one reason why the 28 year old Canadian actress doesn't get her hopes too high for the award. She thinks that being mentioned together with 'bigger' names is already enough for her.

(Robin Wright has just been announced as the winner as of this writing.)

However, for her fans, 2014 is her year. It is her time to get her 'long and overdue' recognition.

As what a typical Canadian could be, Maslany says that she loves the fans' clamor but she's keeping a modest expectation. Talking to the Globe and Mail and some TV critics, Maslany said:

"It's not my ambition. I don't do this for awards and the attention. I've been doing this since I was nine years old and getting awards was never part of it for me."

"The Golden Globes thing is wild," she in a separate inteview with BBC America TCA session. "I'm blown away by it, just trying to breathe in it and take it one day at a time. It's totally out of my league."

Fans of Orphan Black, a sci-fi drama about several identical women who are revealed to be clones, insist that although Maslany is relatively unknown amongst this year's crop of Best TV Drama actress nominees, she deserves the award more than anyone. They argue that the Regina born artist's multiple roles makes her a special actress. In the show, Tatiana plays at least six main characters namely Sarah, Beth, Allison, Cosima, Helena, and Rachel. All these characters have unique personalities, accent, gestures, and stance.

Tatiana added that in her family, awards don't make a lot of fuss.

I've been grounded a lot by the acting teachers I've worked with and also by my family in Regina. This stuff doesn't make sense to us. I think after the Critics Choice Awards, I called my parents and my mom was like, 'That's great! So, anyway, we found a baby bird in the backyard and we nursed it back to health!' And they were so excited about that. So I said, 'Now that's awesome.'"
