World Star Rain? Jung Ji Hoon Is Just Like Your Next Door Neighbor

Rain has come again to the K-Pop scene, but he showed through Mnet's "Rain Effect" that he's not the unapproachable international superstar that everyone assumes him to be. He's just another guy - and that might be the secret to his enduring popularity.

The episode of "Rain Effect" that aired on January 16th showed Rain preparing for his comeback showcase. Despite being a 16-year pro, he appeared nervous, going over every detail before taking the stage. He said, "I'm very happy. I miss my fans very much."

Rain then took the stage. After he finished the first song, he took time to talk to his fans. He even recognized a fan that showed him love for over 10 years, saying, "Following me around for 10 years is a hard thing to do. Thank you."

After the showcase, Rain held a signing event. He stated prior to the signing, "All my fans are genuine. They loved me since my debut. They've loved me, taken care of me, and even forgave me for the mistakes I've made." He took time to ask each person's name and write it down for the fans. He even chided a middle school fan by telling her to make sure to go home on time and study hard. To the camera interview Rain stated, "I love meeting my fans. I feel like they're my friends, and I hope they feel the same way to me."

Rain also appealed to idol groups as an older brother rather than a unapproachable superstar. Although they were nervous at the appearance of Rain, some of the idol groups that courageously approached Rain found him comfortable and welcoming. The first group to visit him was VIXX. They formally greeted Rain by bowing, to which Rain expressed discomfort and welcomed them into his room. He told them to be comfortable around him. He told them, "You don't need to bow. I'm glad you're here." He shook each member's hand and gave his album to them.

Girl's Day also visited Rain. When they formally greeted Rain by bowing, he told them to not do it again because it makes him feel uncomfortable. He signed and gave his album to each member, asking their name and writing it down on the album. He also looked at Girl's Day's album cover, commenting that it is too sexy for such cute girls.

After his schedule was over, he met with his co-actors in the movie "R2B: Return to Base" Jung Suk Won and Lee Jong Suk. He was like a close older brother to them. When Lee Jong Suk explained his hardship in not being able to get close to his costar Park Bo Young, Rain taught him by saying, "Make it your responsibility to go and get closer to her. If you start being awkward to her, that gap between you and her will not decrease."

Rain also asked Lee Jong Suk when he will have a private screening for his new film. Rain told him that he will come to the showcasing. Lee Jong Suk expressed genuine surprise and said, "It would be an honor if you can come," to which Rain replied, "Of course I can go. No need to feel burdened for asking me." Lee Jong Suk genuinely thanked Rain for the kind gesture.

Jung Suk Won also spoke about the time that Rain surprised him by attending his private screening event. Rain spoke on that time, saying that he was hurt that Jung Suk Won didn't invite him for the event. Jung Suk Won responded by stating that he didn't expect Rain to come because Rain was at the apex of his career at the time. He added that he was extremely surprised that someone like that came to his private screening event. Rain responded to him, saying, "You're my younger brothers. You don't need to feel burdened about approaching me."

He's an internationally acclaimed actor and singer, but he's just another guy who doesn't like to be worshiped. Rain would rather be befriended. He may be an entertainer on TV, but in person, he's a kind and gentle soul. "Rain Effect" effectively peels back the charisma of Rain and reveals the human Jung Ji Hoon.
