Darren Sharper Arrested For Alleged Rape; Football Analyst Suspended By NFL Network

Former Pro Bowl safety and football analyst Darren Sharper was arrested last Friday in Los Angeles, California because of sexual assault complaints filed against him. Sharper was then released by the Los Angeles County jail after paying a $200,000-bail. A court hearing will take place on February 14.

The 38-year-old has been allegedly involved with two sexual assaults which happened just this month as well as in October 2013. Apart from such cases, the New Orleans Police Department is similarly investigating a sexual complaint filed against him last September 2013. As of now, authorities have not yet provided details on Darren Sharper's arrest.

"As with every case alleging sexual assault, information gathered is extremely sensitive and the top priority of the detectives is to protect the person who filed the complaint. Because this is an on-going criminal investigation, we cannot provide additional information at this time," explains NOPD spokesperson Remi Braden.

Sharper played 14 seasons with Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Minnesota Vikings. Following Darren Sharper's arrest, the NFL Network has suspended him without pay. Prior to being with NFL Network, he similarly served the role of a football analyst for WWL-TV.

"Darren has been suspended without pay until further notice, effective immediately. Regarding the charges, as a matter of policy, we don't comment on pending legal action," says Pro Football Talk representative Mike Florio.
