The official 'Divergent' movie cast has been revealed in April 2013 and many were surprised when reports circulated that Uriah wouldn't be included in the first film. Uriah, who plays a pivotal role in the film, has been held off from appearing in film adaptation slated for release on March 21, 2014. Why was Uriah's character purposely removed from the 'Divergent' movie cast?

According to Divergent Examiner's source, Uriah will only appear in the second film "to properly introduce and represent the character on-screen." No announcement has been made yet as to who will play his role. However, Romeo Miller tweeted that he auditioned for Uriah's role last February.

How do fans feel upon knowing that Uriah will not be joining the 'Divergent' movie cast?

"What a shame. Don't you just hate when you fall in love with a book, with every detail, so your expectations for the movie is at an all time high, and they just cut off details that make you fall in love with the book in the first place? No, Uriah was not the main character of Divergent, but he played an important part for Tris. He was the backbone for Tris, a constant friend she had. Also, Tris has some warm feelings for Uriah in Divergent, spectating at how handsome he is. Uriah being cut out of Divergent will not be a reason that I won't watch Divergent, but it will be one reason that my expectations are not met," says one fan named Tiffany.

On the other hand, one fan named Kamiylah believes that Uriah should have been in the movie and not Max: "Max(Mekhi Perfier) is not an integral character. However Uriah is. I quite frankly don't even recall Max having and real parts in the book. But I could be wrong. Time to re-read divergent again and make sure the choice was a good one."

Author Veronica Roth has similarly expressed her views with Uriah's non-participation in the first film:

"Some of you may have heard, and some may not, that Uriah won't be cast until the second movie, if we are fortunate enough to make another one. It is understandably disappointing when a favorite character doesn't make it on screen. However, what I do think is encouraging is that the people working on the movie are taking the role of Uriah so seriously and taking so much care to get him right."

'Divergent' is the first of Roth's three books. The second book is entitled 'Insurgent' whereas the last one is 'Allegiant'.
