AOA's Jimin Opens Up About Fan Backlash The Group Faced For Their New Sexy Look On The 'Miniskirt' EP

This year has already seen a new release by the South Korean girl group and band AOA, but not all fans are thrilled about their sexy new direction.

In an appearance Monday on the Seoul Broadcasting System radio show "Kim Changryul's Old School," singer Shin Jimin discussed the backlash AOA has received from some of their fans for their look during the promotional blitz for the new mini-album "Miniskirt," released on Thursday.

"We've been getting a lot of negative comments," Jimin said.

But the 23-year-old singer did manage to spin the negative feedback in the most positive way possible.

"That still shows that people are interested in us," Jimin said. "We used to get no comments at all before."

Host Kim Changryul agreed that at least people were interested in AOA.

"Nothing is sadder than getting no comments," he said. "I think the negative comments will go away on their own eventually."

Jimin explained that it took hard work for the band to transform themselves into sexy divas for the release of "Miniskirt," which also saw the band working with producers Brave Brothers, ElephantKingdom and Galactika.

"We were far from being sexy in the beginning," she said. "We even had to practice our facial expressions as we challenged ourselves for this new sexy concept. Our references included [K-pop singers] Kim Wan Sun, Ivy, Lee Hyori and Uhm Jung Hwa."

But allkpop reader NY825 thinks it's too bad AOA, (which is an acronym for Ace of Angels) had to go the naughty route taken by so many pop stars.

"I'm kind of tired of the same sexy concept," she commented on Monday below a YouTube playlist of teaser clips of the "Miniskirt" EP.

"I loved AOA because they were unique and were more like a band with instruments and a new sound. In this music video, they're laying on the ground, shaking their butts into the camera...really?"

Yet AOA fan Kaelee thinks fans should give the members of AOA a break.

"I see what some of you guys mean, but if they've got the body, why not flaunt it?" she wrote on Thursday.

"It's not like they completely have a say on what they do in the music videos anyway."

AOA debuted in the summer of 2012.
